Red 65 Restaraunt Review

Yesterday June 28th, 2020. 

I enjoyed the cuisine of the local Red 36 restaurant in Mystic Connecticut. Due to the ongoing pandemic there was some inherent concern, however all proper precautions were taken by the restaurant and by myself. 

The seating was outside and the weather was adequate, though it did begin to rain during the courses the table I occupied had an umbrella and I was not affected by the rain at all. The staff made every effort to keep the patrons who were dining outside dry, limiting seating outside and bringing umbrellas closer to tables where patrons were already seated. 

For the food, I had the lobster tacos as an appetizer. They were presented and plated very well and they were very satisfying. Though I did pull out a sizable piece of cartilage and small piece of lobster shell from my tacos. Aside from the surprising remains in the taco, they were very soft, and aquatic in taste. 

For a main course I had the Seared scallops. 

It was seared scallops served on top of a creamy risotto with mushrooms.  The scallops themselves, were underwhelming and lacking on their own. Paired with the risotto though it was a delicious combination, however, the risotto could have stood on its own. Overall it was an adequate entree. 

For desert I enjoyed the key lime pie. A delectable end to the experience. It was tart but sweet topped with whipped cream presented in a vintage farmhouse style jar, by a restaurant on the docks of mystic seaport. The filling was both bitter and sweet, balanced evenly with the whipped topping, however the crust at the bottom of the pie was too crumbly and left a lot to be desired and was rather dry and to be desired after a well served filling. 

Overall I would say it was a good experience. The food was good and adequate, it is not the most elegant ornate dining experience, though it is on the docks and the water. It was I would say satisfying for a restaurant and should be considered for a second time if ever needed. Though I have not tried any other restaurants in Mystic to compare it too.
